I have always been interested in visual strategies that make existing images visible in new ways, that open them up to political questioning. This work is based on a gesture of decontextualisation of medical images.
Clark’s Positioning is the definitive guide for radiographers. It is a manual of photographs demonstrating how to correctly position patients for the X-ray plate. I selected six of these photographs and displayed them on a lightbox. The paper becomes opaque partially revealing the image on the reverse. This opacity is like an echo of the clinical gaze, seeing into the body and bringing new images to the surface.
